Overview
Clinic is a nursing home electronic health care records and management system.
This program accurately addresses the ADLs - activities of daily living. The ADLs are important to accurately assess the patient’s level of assisted care needed. However, these ADL’s are often not documented properly, which can affect patient care, as well as, the facilities bottom line. eClinic’s CNA program is unique in that it is easy to use, requires little training, and is very flexible. eClinic’s ADL program is palm based with real time wireless downloads. The CNA can also directly put the ADL information into the desktop computer. The CNA ADL program is fast, accurate, easy to use and meets all HIPAA requirements. The CNA program is very successful. This part of eClinic alone has increased the accuracy of patient assessment and care, without any additional workload. In fact, eClinic’s CNA ADL program has decreased the time needed to perform an accurate assessment. This gives the CNA more time for quality patient care.
We have also instituted the licensed nurse module (LPN, RN) of eClinic Nursing Home Edition. This module includes an Orders section, Nursing Notes, and a Medication Pass section. The Admission Orders and all orders following are done electronically. The legibility alone prevents errors. The Medication Pass section has more necessary information (for example: purpose of medication and medication side effects) than the paper system. The med pass, done by nursing using eClinic, has increased accuracy while decreasing the time needed for medication pass. eClinic’s unique visual identification system greatly increases accuracy and prevents med pass error. Patients can be adept at removing and losing identification bracelets.
When a nurse is new to a floor, and they must depend on an identification bracelet with a confused patient – the risk of a med pass error becomes significant. With eClinic’s visual identification system, the current picture of the patient receiving a medication is hanging around the med pass nurse’s neck. The electronic devise hanging around the nurse’s neck shows the same picture as is on the current medication administration record page. Whether the confused patient is in their room, in the dining room, in the hallway, or outside – the med pass nurse always has around her neck the current picture of the correct patient requiring medication. We are very proud of this advancement in safety with the visual identification system.
Another safety factor with the nurse module is the Patient Information that travels with the patient to a medical specialist office visit or in a required emergency room visit. eClinic has an easy to use system of printing out the patient’s complete chart in format desired by staff. When a patient has to be sent to an emergency room or a specialist’s office for an appointment, the current orders are printed and sent with the patient. The information for the ER or the specialist is clear, concise and accurate. Therefore, resulting in a more accurate and efficient consult for the patient’s care.
eClinic is interconnective. All the ancillaries – social services, MDS, medical records, admissions, restorative, activities, pastoral care, therapy, administration, housekeeping and maintenance are connected by eClinic. For example, from their office, the director of nursing can see if the med pass and ADLs for each shift have occurred. When an admission occurs the admitting office can, with the push of a computer key, notify nursing, maintenance, house staff and any other area necessary that an admission is occurring at a certain time to a specific room. Notes from one section to another, is made with an email like system. A multi-user system allows for the electronic chart to be used in stand up, while the nurse is doing a med pass, and the Doctor is charting on the same patient simultaneously. The advantages to eClinic’s electronic system are endless.
We have produced eClinic Nursing Home Edition specifically utilizing the input of experienced nursing home administrators, directors of nursing, nurses, CNAs, therapists, and medical providers. eClinic Nursing Home Edition is made by those with nursing home experience for those who work in the nursing homes – for those residents who stay or live in nursing homes.
The keys to success for eClinic include:
1. There is a paucity of complete electronic medical records for nursing homes. eClinic Nursing Home Edition was specifically designed and made for the nursing home environment
2. The requirement by the federal government that all nursing homes will have an EMR in the not too distant future.
3. eClinic EMR is up and running with all modules successfully in Arizona for more than a year.
4. eClinic EMR (all modules in use) has recently passed successfully the Federal and State Survey.
5. eClinic meets HIPAA (privacy) requirements.
6. eClinic is highly cost effective compared to other solutions.
